Magnum Photos have established the Expression Award ‘with the goal of raising awareness and inspiring change through campaigns using photography as an expressive medium. Its mission is to discover and illuminate compelling documentary photography employed in innovative ways to affect social awareness and propel humanitarian compassion.’ The inaugural theme is ‘communities’.
It will be interesting to see the results. One niggle though – despite its claim in regards to ‘inspiring change through campaigns’ there is nothing listed under the ‘Evaluation Criteria’ for the submitted images about how they are used.
